I was extremely exhausted from spending the week helping with Vacation Bible School. Without realizing I fell asleep watching the news. I awoke to two kids (5&7) glued to the tv screen.
It took me a minute to gather my composure when their conversation hit me. Fox news was airing the thwarted London terror attacks and the Glascow airport attacks, which triggered 9/11 in my son's(7) mind. He was explaining everything he seen that September day. He had just turned 2 when that had happened. when he saw the flames on the vehicle it reminded him of the traumatic scene a few years back.
Sometimes I wonder do I explain the evils of the world to my children? Am I to be brutally honest or do I mask the truth and pretend that its okay? The world is evil. It's not necessarily a battlefield here at this time. Or is it? We in our country don't see the things the children in Iraq see first and, but our kids do see the hate growing between cultures. They see our people killing each other over new shoes or disagreements. The world is filling up with hate , violence and viral happenings that is just to hard to cover up anymore. Do you know what your children see? What do you tell them?
